Testimony 1- A psychologist

Dearest Anne,
I'm attending a HIV & AIDS workshop at the moment. The course however isn't addressing this terrible illness, but made me think about my own sexuality. I never realized what a small part sex forms within the big picture of one's sexuality! There are also emotions, thoughts, values, beliefs, society's norms, my spatiality, relationships and my femininity.

It has dawned on me that my sexuality and intimacy are precious gifts, which I can give to someone, virgin or not! And the more I value myself as a person, as a woman, the more precious the gift becomes.

That reminded me of you, Anna. You made a decision to first see how your relationship with Dave develops, before you want to become intimate. You said you wanted to work at the friendship and prevent yourself from getting hurt too soon. I'm not sure what motivated you, but I think it is an incredibly brave step to take. Despite the fact that he expected and demanded sex from you, you just said NO!

To me that speaks of will power. It shows who values herself and what she has and who is trying to be good to herself. What do you think? Does the stand you took speak of something that you value in life? And all this despite the fact that you said you feel lonely at times in Johannesburg , with few friends and a demanding job. You said you would rather walk the road alone a little while longer, than wasting what wonderful gift you have on a guy who doesn't deserve it. That talks about self-respect to me Anne.

I would love to know what you think about all I said. I would like to volunteer, from today, to walk this road with you, proudly!

Love,
Janet

Testimony 2 – RADS Training

Dear Darleen,
This has opened my eyes and thanks for teaching us what the difference is between sex and sexuality. I knew it but I never thought of it in so much detail.

What I liked most is the recycled virgin thing/idea. This caught my attention because I can use this to help my friends who have had sex and most of all, my cousin and my friend who cheated on her boyfriend. Thank you for helping me with that situation because I really care for him and for her.

Thank you for all the positive things you had to say on all our group work and also the negatives so that we could grow. I also want to thank for laying a foundation on which we can now build on.

Yours sincerely,
Elaine

Testimony 3 – RADS Training

This experience was life changing. Before this course I was mean to everybody, hated love, and wanted to have sex before marriage. I've learned to abstain is the best way and I've made a commitment to do just that.

The candle light ceremony was the best! I was in tears, firstly I missed everyone close to me who died and secondly my commitment to myself and God. I've made a great deal of friends and I've learned how to work with people.

The overall impression that this programme created was wow! I enjoyed every minute of it. Thanks a lot!

Alexander
